The Skinny

Mt. Washington is known as "The home of the world's worst weather" and for good reason. It is common in the winter for wind speeds to hit 100+ mph, making this a real challenge and an unforgettable experience. We will meet at our Basecamp in Twin Mountain, NH at 7am where we will fill out our waivers and get geared up for the day.

We will then carpool to the trailhead where our adventure begins.  We will start with a 1.5 hike up the Tuckerman Ravine trail, getting our hearts pumping before we take out our ice axe and crampons where the real climbing begins.  There is a .5 mile section of steep terrain where we will put our crampon and ice axe techniques to the test, rest stepping our way through the steep terrain.  At the top of the steep terrain we step into the alpine zone above treeline, with amazing views of the White Mountains and into the iconic Tuckerman Ravine.  We will usually take our lunch here and get out our ski goggles and face protection before we step into exposed terrain of the Alpine Garden.  One more break at "Split Rock" before our final push to the top of New England, the 6,288ft. Mt. Washington summit.  We will then snap our pictures and scurry down the mountain to get into some fresh clothes and socks, where we will then give ourselves a pat on the back for tackling the home of the world's worst weather.
